Podcast

Prior to this course I have not really been exposed to the world podcasting and never thought of the as a teaching tool in the classroom. I did stumble upon one in moodle as I was researching and found it very useful. I listened to the podcast and took notes. It was a nice change from the constant reading of text, which I found more interactive and engaging. I especially enjoyed the control over the podcast as I was able to forward and rewind the audio.

A podcast I found out is an online digital media file that is either video or audio. These can be downloaded and stored into programs such as iTunes. In my classroom I observed students creating audio recordings of a story, which were then presented to the whole school. The students enjoyed the recording and sharing of their audio story, which also could be transported home and keep in iTunes. I think this is a great sharing tool and would make a creative assessment piece. Students who did not feel quite comfortable sharing in front of a classroom could present their information through a podcast. This also could be used to document students’ development in learning if podcasts were frequent.
