Learning Objects

‘Any digital resource that can be reused to support learning.’

I had a play around on various Learning Objects, which were highly interactive, engaging and a fun experience. At the same time I thought some of the learning experiences were a bit dull and boring, for this reason it would be essential the teacher fully explored the Learning Object first to see wether or not it fitted into the scope of learning and would be of interest to the learners.

The positive aspects I perceived of Learning Objects are as follows:

• Self-paced learning. Student can complete the learning object as fast or slow and without teacher direction, teacher
pressures and expectations.
• Non-threatening if the students fail the task
• Set up for multiple opportunities to compete the same task
• Instant feedback
• Different learning modes are catered for
• Students take on another role, they are longer just learners
• All the learning resources are complied on the learning object, students do not have to search for this
• Provides an affordable and accessible way of learning
• Inclusive for all students regardless of location and time of day
• Appeals to students interests and encourages digital literacy
• Safe online learning tool

Application in the classroom

• Group Work Rotations
• Interactive lesson within a unit of work
• Parent or Buddy Helper set up for younger students
• Before School or Fast Finishers
